I have been competing on the GB Powerlifting team for 10 years. My athletic career started at the age of 8 when I was talent identified and selected for the World Class Start Highboard Diving programme. This was the start of a long career of international and competitive sport and set me up perfectly for the great highs and lows of being an athlete.
My diving career sadly ended at the age of 15 after an accident from the 7.5metre diving board. I then took a few years off competitive sport but always felt like I had more to give and knew that I wanted to be competitive in something again. At the age of 21 I was lucky enough to meet ex World Champion Powerlifter Dean Bowring who put me in contact with his coach Arun Singh. Arun was based in Birmingham at the time that I was attending the University of Birmingham and with his guidance, I turned from being a general ‘gym-goer’ to representing the GB Powerlifting team at an international level within 1 year of training. A few years after this, I moved my life back down South (to Hampshire) to be closer to my family and was re-united with Dean Bowring and his training partners. Logistically it made more sense to have the coaching guidance from Dean and there started another 6 years of competing for GB. My achievements over the last 9 years include:
